Tile decorating a real hit at Play Day

Organised and hosted by Hillingdon Play Association in celebration of National Family Week, which runs from 30^th May to 5^th June, the Arts, Cooking & Play Day was the first of three days of family fun for local children during Half Term.

 

With 17 stores across London and the South East including branches in Uxbridge, Wembley, Greenford, Slough and Hanwell, Tile Depot was ideally located to supply the pallet of tiles to Hillingdon Play Association as just one of the activities on offer at the Arts, Cooking & Play Day, which proved extremely popular with 500 people attending on the Tuesday alone and children of all ages from across the borough taking part. Over the three days, more than 2000 people attended to celebrate National Family Week with Hillingdon Play Association.

 

Stephanie Tchertoff-Thomas, inclusive playworker at Hillingdon Play Association, said: “Children love arts and crafts and really got stuck into drawing, painting and colouring the tiles with motifs, pictures and messages - for their bedroom doors and for parents and grandparents, which is a really lovely thought and a lot of the tiles probably now take pride of place as personalised coasters or teapot stands! Tile decorating is always a huge hit with the children and the families we work with and we’re very grateful to Tile Depot for the donation. We’re thrilled that so many came to enjoy the three days of free play and fun and we’re looking forward to our next event – a week of play days as part of National Playday at the beginning of August. In addition to the tile art, the children each made their own personal addition to a community collage, decorated butterflies and made toys with special guest, Renzo. Messy trays filled with gloop, sand and slime were also a great hit, as were the inflatable assault course and slides. Pizza making provided the perfect cookery activity, the children thoroughly enjoying kneading the dough and adding toppings in a variety of patterns and pictures, and on Smoothie Bikes, which were custom built for HPA by Alternative Bikes, children had the opportunity to blend their own banana and strawberry smoothies by pedalling and operating a blender attached to the front of the bike.

 

Tile Depot was also pleased to offer the families who attended an extra 10% discount on tiles for their walls and floors from the retailer’s massive choice in ceramic, porcelain and natural stone.
